Dune Tannery

Dune Tannery is the name of the project. Between Rehoboth and Mariental, about 20km before Kalkrand in the Hardap Region you find Duineveld where people sell products made from Springbok skins, handbags, vests, rugs, cushions, etc.

Dune Tannery is small scale community business with 600 people. Here is a school and no business or government offices to ease the problem of unemployment. The project started in the early nineties with the old method of hand-tanning. The community of Duineveld created the stalls at the side of the main road between Rehoboth and Kalkrand where they are to sell their products.
