Ogongo Pottery Project

We are producing and selling pottery wares such as vases, cups and pots in the north of Namibia, Ogongo. Traditionally, the pottery wares have been widely used as commodities as well as gifts in our daily life and they are still popular among people in Namibia. They are also becoming popular as traditional decorations for people staying in the lodges in Namibia. These pottery wares are colored with natural red ochre from Ruacana which the Himba tribe applies on their bodies. The natural red ochre color blends well with the pottery clay color, which is one reason for its popularity. During the rainy season, the clay for pottery is unavailable and a ground hole used as a kiln is wet and unusable, so we make curtains and tablecloths instead.
