Jam and Juice Project

Welcome to our Namibian sweet and delicious jam. We are producing jam from regional fruits such as Melon and Tomato, and also producing juice from Eembe and Muzizila. These indigenous fruits are harvested by local farmers in Caprivi region which is full of the blessings of the sun and the water. These products are called a “gift from the nature”. Our project was established in 2007 and won first prize at two domestic trade fairs in 2009 to 2010. This comes as no surprise to the 10 project members who are passionate about the quality of their products. Would you like to try our sweet delicious local specialty?

Katima Craft Centre

Katima Craft Centre offers a truly unique selection of Caprivian artefacts. We carry handcrafted wooden sculptured items as well as a wide selection of pottery and woven baskets and other items. These artefacts allow you to truly celebrate the cultural heritage and diversity of the Caprivians. These handmade pieces of Caprivian artists are crafted by the leading African artists.

The major centre in Caprivi, the gateway to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe and the Chobe National Park in Botswana, is Katima Mulilo. The proximity of the region to Angola, Botswana ans Zambia with their active craft industries, gives impetus to Caprivian artists and craftspeople. Caprivi pots and baskets are noted for their distinctive beauty and symmetry.

The art of the potter in Caprivi has evolved over time. Beautiful pots with spherical bodies and slender necks are created, often with intriguing patterns and interesting firing techniques, making them much sought after by collectors.

Mungongo Oil and Soup Making Project

We are producing Mungongo oil and soup. Mungongo is known as mongongo or manketti, velvety fruits ripen and fall between March and May each year, and contain a thin layer of edible flesh around a thick, hard, pitted shell. Inside this shell is a highly nutritious nut. Mungongo oil from the nuts has been traditionally used as a body rub in the dry season, to clean and moisten the skin. Nowadays, since the Mungongo oil has an preventive effect against hypertension, the oil is known as healthy food.

Mungongo Oil and Soup Making Project

Richard Borshay Lee, writes

A diet based on mungongo nuts is in fact more reliable than one based on cultivated foods, and it is not surprising, therefore, that when a Bushman was asked why he hadn’t taken to agriculture he replied: “Why should we plant, when there are so many mungongo nuts in the world?”
